The Baltimore Orioles faced off against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the Fall Classic, and Game 5 featured Pirates’ pitcher Nelson Briles starting the game to save aces Steve Blass and Dock Ellis for potential Games 6 and 7. The gamble paid off, as Briles pitched an efficient two-hit shutout to lead the Pirates over the Orioles 4-0. The Pirates took a 3-2 series lead with the series heading back to Baltimore.
