Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by PSA, with Autograph Certified by PSA/DNA. New York Yankees pitcher George Pipgras – a teammate of Babe Ruth and four-time World Series Champion – has placed a strong, ballpoint ink signature on the obverse of this moderately circulated, career-contemporary gum card. Although Pipgras appeared briefly with the Yankees in 1923 and 1924, he didn't become an integral part of their rotation until 1927. It was in that memorable year that the talented righthander, buoyed by the offensive support provided by the team's famed "Murderer's Row" lineup, posted a record of 10-3, including a 6-2 complete game victory over the Pirates in Game 2 of the World Series. The following season, he blossomed into one of the top pitchers in the game, leading the American League in wins with 24. Pipgras retired in 1935 and later became a Major League umpire, a position in which, ironically, he was known to have a "tight" strike zone while working behind the plate. Pipgras passed away in 1986.
