Storied Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York was home to the some of the most dramatic moments in baseball history. Built by Brooklyn Dodgers owner Charles Ebbets in 1913 and was home to the Dodgers, who won 9 pennants and one World Series while calling Ebbets Field home. Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson famously broke baseballs’ color barrier on April 15, 1947 at Ebbets Field when he started at first base for the Dodgers in a preseason exhibition game against the New York Yankees. Ebbets Field was also home to the 1949 All-Star Game that was the first to allow African Americans to play in the midsummer classic.

Presented here are a ticket stub and program from the last game played at Ebbets Field, as the Dodgers decamped to Los Angeles after the 1957 season. The final game was played between the Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates, with Dodger pitcher Danny McDevitt posting a shutout in the 2-0 win. Gil Hodges, who famously hit four home runs during a game at Ebbets Field in 1950, was the last Dodger batter, striking out in the bottom of the eighth inning. The 10 x 6-inch paper program is orange and is labeled “Dodgers” in blue cursive writing under a Dodgers baseball cap. A pennant labeled with the dates of the nine National League pennants won by the Dodgers rests atop the program. The price for the official program and scorecard? 15 cents. The program shows signs of cornering and is torn across the front page.  The 2 ½ x 1 ½ -inch ticket is pink and features the entry gate information at the top of the ticket. The seating information, “G20 Seat 1” and section “Lower Box” appear on the front of the ticket above a “Dodgers” and date of “Tuesday, September 1957 Ebbets Field 24” and features a welcome from the Dodgers and an address to send any complaints. The reverse side of the ticket features information for a rain date and the fascmile signature of Dodgers president, Walter O’Malley. The ticket comes encapsulated and authenticated by PSA (48029750) and is rated PR 1.
