Encapsulated and assessed "Authentic" by SGC. Hall of Famer. Pose #0311. This collectible of John Montgomery Ward is particularly coveted among 19th Century enthusiasts. "Monte" Ward left his mark on the game of baseball in several significant ways. He was an outstanding pitcher as well as an everyday player, amassing 2,151 hits and 163 wins (including 46 in 1879) during his illustrious career. Later, he applied his talents in team management and, as an attorney, also helped to refine important aspects of the game's labor relations policies. This relic from Ward's playing days carries a fabulous representation of the period's sepia-photo artistry. Very satisfying obverse display quality, with adhesive and paper residue on the reverse side.
