Released to the North American market in March 1998, the action role-playing hack and slash game featured the player on a quest to defeat "Diablo," the lord of Hell. "Diablo" received almost near-critical acclaim and is praised for its addictive gameplay and immersive dungeons and worlds. The game is the first game in the "Diablo" franchise.
