In 1962, Satchel Paige’s biography, “Maybe I’ll Pitch Forever” was written and published by David Lipman, who had ideas to make this book into a movie. This five page contract discusses the right’s and money percentages if and when such a movie would be made. The contract discusses the original agreement which paid Paige the sum of $20,000 for the right’s to his biography, and amends these right’s for an additional $20,000 for the “purpose of producing a motion picture for exhibition in theaters…” Page three of this agreement has been signed in blue ink “Leroy Satchel Paige”, his wife Lahoma and the author David Lipman. This is an unexecuted contract, without dates or stampings, but does include the signature of a notary public on page four. The full name Paige signature grades a solid (“8”). It is extremely scarce to find contracts of players from the early days of baseball, especially those with early Negro League experience. While this contract is not from his baseball days, it does concern his baseball life, documenting the history of one of baseball’s most colorful and most talented pitchers. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
