Veterans Stadium was part of the cookie-cutter turf stadium of the early 1970s. Affectionately known as “The Vet" it was a raucous stadium with plenty of history. It hosted both the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles from 1971 until 2003, along with 17 Army-Navy football games, two MLB All Star games (1976 and 1996), and saw the Phillies capture a World Series title in 1980. Offered is an original turnstile from this historical Stadium. When both the Phillies and Eagles advanced to their new Stadiums for their 2004 seasons, all the history remained at the old arena, but the Stadium was demolished. This saved turnstile measures 24" long by 23-1/2" wide by 39" high, and has handled the entrance of countless patrons and fans for all those aforementioned occasions. The one side has a key lock and counter, which is blank. The "Perey New York" manufacturers name is on top, and while the main part is painted solid green, it contains silver colored bars and silver top. The turnstile still allows access, turning just as well as it did in its heyday, but as mentioned earlier, the counter is blank. The handle bar and base are still in tremendous condition, despite the advanced use it had received over the years. The usual dents, nicks and chipped paint accompany this item, mostly within the lower areas. This item is a great part of Philadelphia sports history, witnessing parts of many great games including that 1980 World Series, and the January 1981 Eagles NFC title game victory over the Dallas Cowboys. In addition, the first ever court system in a major stadium was at The Vet with the implementation of “Eagles Court” to deal with unruly fans – a Philadelphia staple. Due to the size and weight of this lot, shipping costs will be substantial.
