     Presented is a collection of 11 autographed cuts of historical figures from the United States in the early 20th Century. Foremost in the lot is the autograph of Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, the first man to fly across the North and South Poles. Byrd has signed “R.E. Byrd” on black ink with a black underscore on a white 2 x 4 ¼ inch card mounted with black paper corner mounts on a white 7 x 10 ¾ inch card with typed caption. Alfred E. Smith has signed in black ink on a white 3”x5” card with a gold embossed New York state seal and blue embossed “State of New York Executive Mansion Albany” legend in the upper right. The card is mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 7x 10 cut card with typed and handwritten caption.

     The 31st Vice President of the United States, Charles Curtis (served with Pres. Herbert Hoover from 1929-1933) has signed in black ink on a 2 ½ x 3 ¼ white card, which is mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 6 ½ x 10 ½ cut paper card with a type and handwritten caption. Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Charles Evan Hughes has signed “Charles E. Hughes” with black ink on a white 1 ½ x 3 inch cut card mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 7 x 10 ¾ inch cut sheet with a typed and handwritten caption.

     A letter and envelope from then Manhattan District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey (black letterhead on white paper) dated December 22, 1937 has a typewritten message with black ink signature. (Dewey became the 47th Governor of New York and was the Republican nominee for President in 1944 and 1948.) Vice President and Nobel Prize winner Charles G. Dawes has signed in black in on a white 2 ¼ x 3 ¼ inch cut card that is mounted on a white 7x 10 ½ inch cut sheet with a typed and handwritten caption. A white 1 ¾ x 3 ¼ inch cut card embossed in black “Autograph of Secretary of the Treasury” is autographed by A.W. Mellon in black ink, mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 7x 11 inch cut sheet with typed and handwritten caption.

     There is a white 2 ½ x 3 ¾ inch cut card embossed in black “Autograph” and signed by Frank B. Kellogg, mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 6 ½ x 11 inch cut sheet with typed caption. On white United States Lines letterhead, 8 x 11 inch with navy blue letters and a small flag logo, is a typed and signed letter from “Geo. Fried,” dated March 7, 1929. U.S. Navy dirigible commander C.E. Rosendahl has signed in black ink (with the inscription “Lieut.-Cmdr. U.S.N.”) on a white 1 ¼ x 4 ¾ inch cut card mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 7 x 10 ½ inch cut sheet with typed caption. On a white 2 ½ x 3 ½ inch cut card is the autograph, in black ink, of William D. Mitchell with the typed message “I am pleased to furnish you my autograph for your collection. Attorney General.” It is mounted with four black paper corner mounts on a white 7 ¼ x 11 inch cut sheet with typed and handwritten caption. All items are accompanied by COAs and LOAs from JSA.
