Offered in this lot are two Uruguayan Deportes magazines published in 1930. Uruguay famously won the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, defeating archrivals Argentina in the tournament final by a score of 4-2. These two magazines are primarily about the World Cup, although sports as varied as boxing, cycling, and cross country are discussed at length in the pages of Deportes. One of the magazines shows the legendary soccer star Jose Leandro Andrade on the cover with the caption “Andrade, el extraordinario malabarista del football uruguayo”. The second magazine has an image of the World Cup trophy superimposed in front of the Tower of Homage at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo. Both magazines have several pages unbound inside, however they are generally in good condition. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
