When the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers both moved to California following the 1957 season, New York became a 1-ballclub town, with only the Yankees playing ball within the city limits. It would remain that way until 1962, when the New York Mets made their Major League debut. Playing their home games at the Polo Grounds that year, the Mets amassed an MLB record 120 losses against just 40 wins in that first season, but would need only 7 short years before winning their first World Series title in 1969. This lot of (2) 1962 NY Mets Official Program and Score Cards features 2 copies of programs sold at the stadium during Mets games in 1962. The cover displays an aerial photograph of what is labeled as “Flushing Meadows Stadium – New 1963 Home of the New York Mets”, below the NY Mets Skyline logo. Each program is packed with news & information regarding the team and its personnel, and the score cards are game specific, with 1 for a game vs. Cincinnati and the other for a game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. The scorecard for the Reds game has the starting lineups written in, while the Dodgers scorecard is untouched. A unique time capsule from the inaugural season of 2015’s National League pennant winner.
