Coach Smith designed the play that allowed Jordan to sink the game-winning jump shot to put the Tar Heels over the Hoyas with 17 seconds left to play. Jordan has called the shot the turning point of his career. The game is noted for featuring future NBA Stars James Worthy and Sam Perkins playing for the Tar Heels, and Patrick Ewing for the Hoyas.
