Offered is a lot of two New York Yankees-themed cufflink sets, including a 1961 Roger Maris tie clip and a Mickey Mantle money clip. The first item in this lot is a pair of silver metal New York Yankees cufflinks in a 1 x 2½ x 2½-inch blue plastic presentation box with gold trim. The cufflinks have the interlocking “NY” logo engraved on the top. The interior white silk upper lining of the box has the legend “2015 Old-Timers’ Day” embroidered in blue thread.

The second item in this lot is a pair of silver metal cufflinks and a silver metal tie clip. The cufflinks have the engraved image of baseball stitches and the legend “Official Ball American League Joseph Cronin” engraved on the front. On the back is an engraved reproduction signature of Roger Maris with the legend “61 Home Runs” below. The tie clip is also silver metal and is in the shape of a baseball bat, with the Louisville Slugger logo engraved alongside a reproduction of Roger Maris signature. The cufflinks and tie clip are housed on a white cardboard hold within a 1 x 2¼ x3-inch brown cloth and gold metal box. The interior white silk upper lining of the box has the legend “HICKOX Positively Finer” in red embroidered thread over a gold laurel wreath. There is a red stripe in the upper right corner of the box’s interior lid.

The third item in this lot is a 1 x 2-inch gold metal money clip with a blue cloisonné “button” on the front, with gold pinstripes, the number “7”, the Yankees interlocking “NY” logo and a reproduction of the signature of Mickey Mantle.

Mantle and Maris, or “The M&M Boys,” were teammates on the Yankees from 1960 to 1966, but they gained national prominence during the 1961 season, when Maris and Mantle, batting third and fourth in the Yankee lineup respectively, both challenged Babe Ruth's 34-year-old single-season record of 60 home runs. The home run lead would change hands between the two teammates numerous times throughout the summer and fueled intense scrutiny of the players by the press. Maris eventually broke the record when he hit his 61st home run on the final day of the season, while Mantle hit 54 before he was forced to pull out of the lineup in September because of an abscessed hip.
