Boston Red Sox star Victor Martinez wore this gray button-down Sox road jersey during Boston’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays on September 2nd, 2009 at Tropicana Field. Martinez joined the Red Sox from Cleveland at the 2009 Trade Deadline, and he would finish the season with 56 appearances in a Red Sox uniform. On September 2nd, Martinez went 1-3 with an RBI, run scored, and two walks in the Sox 8-5 road loss to the Rays. Martinez’s RBI, his 87th of the season, came on a one-run single off Matt Garza in the top of the seventh. Martinez finished the 2009 season with a .303 batting average, 23 homers, and 108 RBI while also making the American League All-Star team. This offered Red Sox jersey has “BOSTON” sewn across the chest in navy tackle twill. A Red Sox logo patch and a Majestic logo are sewn on the left sleeve. “MARTINEZ” and his number “41” are sewn on the back of the jersey in navy tackle twill. A Majestic size “48” tag is applied to the front left tail. This jersey comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (LH 181542) and a Steiner Sports game used hologram (120922).
Also included in this lot is a batting helmet worn by Martinez and a locker room nameplate. The helmet is authenticated by MLB to the Red Sox October 3rd, 2010 game against the Yankees, their final game of the season. While Martinez did not play in this game, this helmet was most likely used during the season and collected after the Red Sox final regular season game. The navy helmet has the Red Sox “B” logo applied to the front, and Martinez’s number “41” and a MLB logo applied to the back. The helmet is a size 7 ¼ with all the interior padding intact. This helmet comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (BB 757558) and a Steiner Sports game used hologram (153683). The final item, the locker nameplate, was also collected after the Yankees and Red Sox game on October 3rd, 2010. The nameplate measures 14 x 3 inches with a magnetic backing.
