Anticipation of the Super Bowl commercials is the second reason America (and the world) gets tuned into Super Bowl Sunday. Known as “The Showdown”, the commercial with Michael Jordan and Larry Bird is perhaps one of the greatest Super Bowl commercials of all time. Only a few months after their leading the 1992 US Olympic basketball team to a Gold Medal, Jordan and Bird teamed up in a McDonalds commercial directed by Joe Pytka. Jordan walks into an empty arena where Bird is shooting around, carrying a bag form McDonald’s. Bird challenges Jordan to a game of “HORSE” with the winner watching the other eat the McDonalds Big Mac and fries Jordan just brought to the empty arena. Game on! The famed “Showdown” shows both Hall of Famers making easy baskets, with the shots becoming progressively more difficult, leading to impossible attempts which each player continuously makes, each uttering the catchphrase “nothing but net” after every bucket. This Wilson Official Jet basketball was signed and gifted by Jordan to the director Joe Pytka, “To Joe, Sorry your (sic) not as good as Bird – Michael Jordan.” This is one of the largest and cleanest Jordan signatures we have ever seen, one where each letter is fully legible, encompassing an entire panel of the basketball.
