Presented is a limited-edition Muhammad Ali signed and inscribed 1960 Rome Olympics multi-color canvas giclee print by artist Steve Kaufman. The former three-time heavyweight boxing champion signed his name in gold marker in the center of the canvas and inscribed “AKA Cassius Clay” below his signature. The artist has inscribed his initials, “SAK” in black marker and the inscription “88/100” below his signature on the reverse side of the 47½ x 52½-inch canvas. Kaufman’s 2000 painting is a collage with many faces of the 1960 Olympic Boxing champion in an intimate portrait. The upper left shows Ali ferociously engaged in a sparring match, the image in lower left shows an introspective Ali, while the largest image shows us the convivial entertainer who captured the world's attention. The repeated Ali, Ali, Ali, painted behind the largest Ali in blue and black, in the lower right, dressed in a suit with a light shirt, no tie, arms outstretched with a broad smile on his face. At the lower right is printed in gold “Cassius Clay” with his results from the 1960 Olympic Games below. Kaufman, who was an assistant to Andy Warhol, enhanced his print by adding “ALI” dozens of times in multiple colors. Ali was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He began training as an amateur boxer at age 12. At 18, he won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics and turned professional later that year. He converted to Islam and became a Muslim after 1961; he eventually took the name Muhammad Ali. He won the world heavyweight championship from Sonny Liston in a major upset at age 22 in 1964. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication.
