Presented here is a Cabbage Patch Kids doll signed by the legendary Muhammad Ali. The Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were created by Coleco and were based off of the “Little People” soft sculptured dolls sold by Xavier Roberts as collectibles. The doll brand set every toy industry sales record for three consecutive years during the 1980s. Ali, who signed and inscribed “Pretty Boy” and the date “5-22-88” with a black marker across the chest. Ali remains the only three-time lineal champion in heavyweight division history and his feuds with rivals such as Joe Frazier led to “The Fight of the Century” and “The Thrilla in Manilla” are widely considered the greatest fights in boxing history. Ali would face George Forman in “The Rumble in the Jungle,” and an estimated 1 billion people witnessed Ali regain his title against a more vigorous and younger Foreman. Ali retired in 1981 with a record of 56-5, with 37 wins by knockout. The doll features black boxing trunks, a diaper, and brown hair and eyes. A “Cabbage Patch Kids” manufacturer’s tag is attached to the left side of the doll. The facsimile signature of Xavier Roberts appears on the right buttock of the doll and served as an official imprimatur to ward off duplicates that were popular during the height of the Cabbage Patch Kids craze in the 1980s. The doll contains a small stain on the back and the shorts are larger than typically seen on other specimens. A unique item containing the signature and inscription from one of boxing’s most legendary pugilists, the item comes with an LOA from Beckett Authentication (AA09664) for the signature.
