Taken on June 13th, 1948, this famous photograph taken by Pulitzer Prize photographer Nat Fein, was published in the New York Herald Tribune. Titled “The Babe Bows Out” shows Ruth, looking frail and thin after a long illness, looking out to the adoring crowd from home plate for one last time. Sadly, two short months after this photograph was taken, Ruth passed away on August 16th, 1948. Ruth is in full uniform for one last time on June 13th 1948 as the Yankees were celebrating the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium and their first World Series title, and it was also the day when Ruth’s famed number 3 was retired.

This offered photograph has been classified as a Type 2 by PSA/DNA and has been signed and inscribed by the photographer Nat Fein. Fein inscribed “To Joe DiMaggio Best Wishes – Nat Fein 7-19-72”. Also inscribed on the top right corner is NO 3 Bows out 1949 Pulitzer Prize. A wonderful piece of baseball history signed by a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer and inscribed to a baseball Hall of Famer. This photograph comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1P10983, who have classified this photograph as a Type 2, plus an additional LOA from PSA/DNA (AE71979) for the signature and inscription.
