The 1973 National League Championship Series pitted the Cincinnati Reds against the New York Mets. The Reds came in as heavy favorites with a 99-63 record, while the Mets finished the season with an 82-79 record. It was a literal battle between the two teams during the fifth inning of Game 3, a fight broke out between Pete Rose of the Reds and Bud Harrelson of the Mets. When it was all said and done, the underdog Mets defeated the Reds in five games of the best-of-five series and advanced to the World Series to face the Oakland A’s. Offered here is an Official National League Charles S. Feeney stamped baseball that has been signed by the umpires of that memorable 1973 NLCS. Umpires Jerry Dale and Bruce Froeming signed their names in black pen on the panel to the left of the stamped sweet spot. Bob Engel and Ed Sudol signed their name in black ink on the panel to the right of the stamped sweet spot. On the panel above the stamped sweet spot, Chris Pelekoudas signed his name in black pen and inscribed “#14”. Ed Vargo’s signature appears on the panel with the Spalding stamp. The signatures are light but still readable and the ball displays only light toning. This comes with a JSA Auction Letter.
