Dominican-born outfielder Oscar Taveras was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals at age 16 and showed tremendous promise with his big league in debut in 2014, before his tragic death in an auto accident in the off-season. These size 11 hightop Under Armour spikes were worn on the occasion of the phenom’s first big league hit in just his second at bat, a massive 418-foot home run that was the game winner in a 2-0 victory against the San Francisco Giants on May 31, 2014. Each is dated and signed on the toe in black sharpie by Taveras, along with the words “1st Major League HR/Hit.” The signature may appear smudged, but that is an affect of the crossing of the “t” on the leather surface. “TAVERAS” is stitched on each tongue in white. JSA LOA. This lot is part of the Oscar Taveras collection and all consignor proceeds in excess of minimum bid will be donated directly to the Taveras family.
