Still the most rarefied individual accomplishment in baseball only 23 pitchers have ever thrown a Perfect Game and nobody has ever thrown one twice, which makes this ball containing the signatures of 17 perfect twirlers all the more amazing. In fact the 17 signatures on the ball represent 17 of the last 18 pitchers to throw a Perfect Game (Jim “Catfish” Hunter died in September of 1999 well before these signatures were accumulated). Don Larsen who threw the most famous perfect game of all signed this Official Alan H. Selig Major League ball in blue ball point pen on the sweet spot with a “PG 10-8-56” inscription signifying the date that he threw the only no-hitter in World Series history against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the fifth game of the 1956 Series. Other signatures on the ball in reverse chronological order of their Perfect Games are as follows: Felix Hernandez “8-15-12,” Matt Cain “PG 6-13-12,” Phillip Humber “PG 4-21-12,” Roy Halladay “P.G. 5-29-10,” Dallas Braden “pg 5-9-10,” Mark Buehrle “PG 7-23-09,” Randy Johnson “P.G. 5-18-04” David Cone “P.G. 7-18-99,” David Wells “P.G. 5-17-98,” Kenny Rogers “P.G. 7-28-94,” Dennis Martinez “7-28-91,” Tom Browning “PG 9-16-88,” Mike Witt “P.G. 9/30/84” Len Barker “P.G. 5-15-81,” Sandy Koufax “P.G. 9/9/65” Jim Bunning “P.G. 6/21/64.” Prior to Larsen’s 1956 World Series gem, the last Major League Perfect Game was pitched by Charlie Robertson in 1922. Prior to Robertson, the only other pitchers to throw perfect games since 1900 were Addie Joss (1908) and Cy Young (1904). Lee Richmond and John Montgomery Ward both threw perfect games in 1880. All signatures on this limited edition (120/156) ball are in blue ball point pen and grade at or near a perfect (“10”) and the ball is accompanied by PSA/DNA LOA certification #V12137.
