Pete Rose surpassed Ty Cobb’s major-league hit total (4,189) on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1985. Facing the Padres’ RHP Eric Show, Rose’s 4,190th hit was a first-inning single – thus ending the anticipation of seeing history rather quickly. “Charlie Hustle” walked in the bottom of the third and tripled in the seventh to help the Reds, his original team to which he had returned that season after six seasons away, to a 2 – 0 victory. More than 47,000 fans witnessed Rose’s feat. This unused and intact pink-red-white paneled ticket reserves Section 341, Row 26, Seat 104 in Riverfront Stadium for that game. Had the purchaser redeemed the ticket, he would have entered through Gate 6. The Reds insignia adorns the center white panel and left edge panel. Rose signed “Pete Rose” in bold blue Sharpie, just below the center, white panel (Grade 9). On the reverse are the usual legal disclaimers in red ink. The slogan “Reds Getting’ Back to Fun Again” is stamped (perhaps alluding to Rose’s return?) in red. The back panel has slight age discoloration, but entire ticket is intact. The souvenir ticket that Rose signed is from his Ballpark Café in Boca Raton, Fla. The front of this faux-ticket displays 3 illustrations of Rose in Cincinnati uniform, “Inaugural Season” at four corners, designations “Game 1” and “Section 4256” (the number of his career hits). The reverse lists 19 “major records” held by Rose. Rose signed in bold blue Sharpie on an upward slant across the center of the ticket (Grade 8). Both tickets and signatures are encapsulated in separate acrylic sleeves and certified authentic by PSA/DNA.
