In 1964, at the Democratic National Convention, President Lyndon B. Johnson asked the convention to select Humphrey as the Vice-Presidential nominee. The ticket was elected in November in a Democratic landslide. In 1968, Humphrey was the Democratic Party's candidate for President, but he was defeated narrowly by Richard M. Nixon. After the defeat, Humphrey returned to Minnesota to teach at the University of Minnesota and Macalester College. He returned to the U.S. Senate in 1971, and he won re-election in 1976.

This lot includes a pair of photographs, one signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and the other signed by his Vice President Hubert Humphrey.  The photo of LBJ is particularly impressive and most intriguing as well.  The photo is larger than an 8x10 and was done by a professional photographer.  The image is a close up of just LBJ’s eyes, and this one is addressed only to Ann Martini, the wife of White House Barber Steve Martini, who had a very close relationship with President Johnson.  The photo comes beautifully framed, although the frame shows its half a century age. The other photograph in the lot is to both Steve and Ann Martini and has an extended, yet similar salutation to that in the photograph of Johnson.  The photo has been signed on the border by Hubert Humphrey in a bold black ink, as opposed to the Johnson signed photograph where the once very bold signature does show some fading of the signature, but still rates in a strong mid-grade.  The photograph of Johnson comes with a LOA from Beckett and the Humphrey photo comes with a COA from Beckett, while the lot is accompanied by a letter of provenance from Steve Martini Jr.
