1923 was a pivotal year in New York sports. For two decades, John McGraw’s Giants were the best team in town, with the Dodgers and Yankees playing a distant second and third. The Yankees didn’t even own their own ballpark, having to rent the Giants’ Polo Grounds, an arrangement that became awkward after Babe Ruth joined the Yanks in 1920. The 1924 New York Yankees were coming off of four straight American League pennants and while the 1924 team finished second to the Washington Senators by only two games, the season was notable in that it was the last full season for Wally Pipp, who was famously replaced due to injury by Lou Gehrig.

Presented here is an Official American League Ban Johnson stamped baseball that has been signed by 10 members of the 1923 and 1924 New York Yankees. All of the signatures have been signed in blue pen and features Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Other signatures include Hall of Famers Herb Pennock and Miller Huggins, with the remaining signatures of Ernie Johnson, Whitey Witt, Benny Bengough, Joe Bush, Oscar Roettger, Mike McNally and Aaron Ward (black ink). The ball displays heavy toning, but the signatures are still very strong. This ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AK09060), plus an additional LOA from Beckett Authentication (AB09462).
