Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is widely considered one of the greatest American authors. Twain, during the height of his popularity, lived in Hartford, Connecticut, where he wrote many of his popular novels which included “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, “The Prince and the Pauper”, “Life on the Mississippi”, “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”. Twain and his family spent 17 years in Connecticut (1874-1891). Offered is a cut signature that is 2 ¼ x 5 ½ inches long and adhered to a 3 x 6 inch paper backing. The cut is inscribed in black pen “Is there a mistake somewhere? Answer, not at Springfield, but Hartford.” and signed “S.L. Clemens.” This remarkable signature and inscription has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (65127248) in a 4 ½ x 9 ½ inch holder.
