This extremely satisfying black-and-white image depicts Satchel Paige during his 1951-53 stint with the American League's St. Louis Browns. By this point in his career, the Negro League veteran had done it all: he'd been selected as an All-Star on multiple occasions, won a World Series, and traveled all over North America practicing his craft. By 1953, Paige was (at least) 47 years of age, and he'd thoroughly developed the unique personality that delighted fans along with the talent that confounded opponents. Across his jersey on this likeness, the righthander who invented the "Bat Dodger" and the "Trouble Ball" has signed in blue ink. A great display piece, featuring a prized Paige signature and a priceless Paige expression. Paige, a 1971 Cooperstown enshrinee, passed away in 1982. Come with a LOA from JSA (Y80535)
