Presented here is a special Gold Glove Award presented to Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn for his impressive achievement of winning five Gold Gloves. Not just an exemplary hitter, Gwynn manned the right field for the San Diego Padres for his entire 20-year career. The eight-time National League batting champion won Gold Glove Awards in 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991. Here we present the leading symbol of that achievement, the rare "career" Gold Glove presented only to those players claiming a top defensive ranking four or more times in a career.

The baseball glove manufacturer Rawlings created the Gold Glove Award to commemorate the best fielding performance at each position. The award was created from a glove made from gold lamé-tanned leather and affixed to a walnut base. Initially, only one Gold Glove per position was awarded to the top fielder at each position in Major League Baseball; however, separate awards were given for the National and American Leagues beginning in 1958. Two plaques are included on the walnut base, one which features a portrait of Gwynn and the other which reads “1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991 RAWLINGS GOLD GLOVE AWARD / Presented to TONY GWYNN / Honoring His Selection As “THE FINEST IN THE FIELD!””. Rawlings wordmarks are applied to each end of this plaque and two gold Rawlings stamped baseballs are displayed on special gold colored holders. This award is in fantastic condition and is a unique piece of one of the greatest careers in baseball history.
