Offered here is an excellent set of working lyrics for the posthumously released track “Fame” by Tupac Shakur. Recorded during the mid-1990’s during Tupac’s period as “Makaveli” on Death Row Records, this track was not released until 2002, six years after Tupac’s death, on the album Better Dayz. Better Dayz was extremely successful, charting at number “5” on the Billboard 200. These lyrics are for the first verse of the song, which features Tupac, Bad Azz, and The Outlawz. Although the released version differs slightly from Tupac’s written verse, this is nevertheless an incredible piece of hip-hop history.
Tupac’s lyrics touch on many of the themes common to his music, including the commoditization of black culture, bridging gaps between his fellow man, and reflections upon his own mortality. These lyrics have been written in crisp red fiber-tip marker on line paper, taking up all but four of the many lines. Tupac titled his verse, writing “Fame” above the lyrics. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (z42112) and a LOA from Jermaine Carter, a long-time friend and former business associate of Tupac Shakur.
