The inimitable Ty Cobb has signed this framed check. Cobb, a 24-season veteran of the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Athletics, is one of only two men to record over 4,000 hits in Major League Baseball and a 12-time American League batting champion. Cobb holds the record for highest career batting average (.366) and hit 724 doubles and 295 triples in his legendary career. Cobb was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 as a member of Cooperstown’s inaugural class. This personal check was issued by the First National Bank of Nevada, and signed by Cobb on February 9th, 1959, two years before his death at the age of 74. This check is made out to “Disabled American Veterans” and is for $1.00. Cobb has signed the check in green marker as “Tyrus R. Cobb”. The check features hole punches, however these do not affect Cobb’s signature. The check is displayed in a 13x 19-inch frame along with a black and white photograph of Cobb.
