Until Babe Ruth, no player dominated the game like Ty Cobb. For 12 consecutive years, Cobb led the American League in batting and cranked out an astounding 4,186 hits, a total that took almost seven decades for another player to beat. Cobb was one of the few players who was able to successfully navigate the transition from the dead ball era to the modern era and his lifetime average of .366 is still the highest in baseball history. When the National Baseball Hall of Fame was founded in 1936, Ty Cobb garnered 98.23% of the votes, which is still the fifth highest recorded total. Although he often was a polarizing figure, Cobb remains one of the greatest men to ever swing a baseball bat in the Major Leagues and as such, a single-signed Cobb ball is one of the cornerstones of any baseball collection.

The Georgia Peach has signed the side panel of this Official American League Ban Johnson baseball. The original Hit King has signed in black ink and his light signature is preserved by a coating of shellac. The coating has darkened with age and there is another coating applied to the circular “REACH” stamp on the adjacent panel. Despite this discoloration, Cobb's signature is easily read. The remainder of the baseball appears only slightly toned and the stampings are clear. This baseball comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A89898).
