Known for their sensational headlines, the New York Post struck a far more serious tone when Osama Bin Laden, the alleged architect of the devastating September 11, 2001 attacks against the Pentagon, the World Trade Center, and Flight 93 which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania finally admitted culpability for the attacks.  A tape had surfaced where Bin Laden officially announced his involvement with the attacks that killed 2,977 innocent lives. The 11 x 13 ½ -inch paper dated December 14, 2001 is labeled “NEW YORK POST” at the top and includes the price of “50 cents” and “CELEBRATING 200 YEARS” in red on either corner of the newspaper. The cover features two images, one of Bin Laden taken from the videotape where he bragged about he attacks, and in image of the Twin Towers on fire. “I DID IT” is displayed across the cover in white with a quote of Bin Laden’s about the effectiveness of the attacks. Justice would finally catch up with Bin Laden a decade later when the United States launched Operation Neptune Spear, the May 2, 2011 raid by Navy Seals that culminated with the death of Bin Laden at his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Robert J. O’Neil, a member of Seal Team 6 that spearheaded the raid, is credited with firing the shot that killed the terrorist mastermind. O’Neil signed and inscribed “NEVER QUIT” across the “I DID IT” on the cover of the newspaper with a blue marker. The signature is bold and the newspaper is in good condition. The December 14, 2001 New York Post newspaper signed by U.S. Navy Seal Robert J. O’Neil comes with a STICKER ONLY from PSA/DNA (9A45387).
