The 6th President of the United States, John Quincy Adams was the son of President John Adams and Abigail Adams. As a diplomat, Adams played an important role in negotiating key treaties, most notably the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812. As Secretary of State, he negotiated with Britain over the United States' northern border with Canada, negotiated with Spain the annexation of Florida, and drafted the Monroe Doctrine.
Historians agree he was one of the greatest diplomats and secretaries of state in American history. This 3 x 7 inch note is completely in Adams’ own hand in bold, beautiful script. It reads, “Dear Sir. I received this morning the papers herewith enclosed, from the War Department, addressed to you; which I take earliest opportunity of forwarding to you; and remain faithfully yours. John Quincy Adams.” Without a date or mention of what the papers entail, we have no idea what Adams was involved with here, but considering his vast background as a statesman, diplomat and President of the United States, it was most certainly something of utmost importance. There is some light spotting and two vertical folds, but otherwise the note is fine condition and completely legible. This note and signature has been authenticated by PSA/DNA, graded and encapsulated as MINT 9 condition.
