Offered here is an Indiana Pacers warm-up jacket worn circa 1976-80. The button-down, collared jacket is toned white, with “PACERS” sewn vertically down the left chest in blue and yellow tackle twill. Yellow bands run parallel to “PACERS” and a blue and yellow pattern is present on the sides. A large Pacers logo patch is sewn on the back of this jacket.
It is worth noting that an image of this style warm-up top can be found in the attached image of the ABA All-Star game in 1976. It is possible that the warm-ups from the Pacers ABA team were used after the Pacers joined the NBA in the ABA–NBA merger prior to the start of the 1976-77 season. With this in mind, it should also be noted that the number “45” is written on the inside back collar of this warm-up and that number was not used by a Pacer player in the ABA after their initial season in 1967. The number 45 was used by Rudy Hackett during the 1976-77 season and Clemon Johnson during the 1979-80 season after the Pacers move to the NBA. Again, while it is entirely possible the warm-ups used prior to the 1976-77 were carried over when the cash-strapped Pacers transitioned to the NBA, the number 45 likely does apply to the either Hackett or Johnson. This jacket shows moderate wear and comes with a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
