Lot #2971: 1964 New York Mets/Pittsburgh Pirates Ticket Stub From Mets’ First Game At Shea Stadium (PSA VG 3)

After playing the first two seasons of their existence in the Polo Grounds, the former home of the New York Giants, the new National League team – the New York Mets, opened their brand-new home in Flushing, Queens – Shea Stadium on April 17th, 1964 in front of 50,312 fans. Thanks to a 4-for-5 performance from Hall of Famer Willie Stargell, that included a home run and a double, the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates knocked off the Mets 4-3. Presented here is a ticket stub from the first ever official baseball game at Shea Stadium. This ticket is colored light blue with royal blue and orange print. “OPENING DAY” is printed vertically in orange along the bottom left and the date “FRIDAY APRIL 17 -1964-“ is printed in the right center. This ticket shows fading, along with corner and edge wear and has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA (29088480), with a grade of VG 3.
