Lot #2972: 1969 "Miracle Mets" MLB World Series Game 5 Full Ticket From New York Mets/Baltimore Orioles Game On 10/16/69 - Mets' First Title (PSA VG-EX 4)

Description

The New York Mets were a beacon of futility for the first seven years of their existence, consistently losing 100 or more games and never finishing above .500. This all changed in 1969, when Tom Seaver, Cleon Jones, and Tommy Agee led the Mets to an unbelievable 100-62 record despite an 18-23 start to the season. The Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves in a three-game League Championship Series sweep, setting up a World Series against the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles, the winners of 109 regular season games. Baltimore won Game 1 of the World Series, defeating Hall of Famer Tom Seaver 4-1, but the Mets won three straight games to set up a potentially series-clinching Game 5 at Shea Stadium. Jerry Koosman took the hill for the Mets in Game 5, throwing nine innings of three run ball to steer the Mets to a 5-3 win and the franchise’s first World Series victory. World Series MVP Donn Clendenon powered the Mets to victory with his third home run of the World Series, while Ron Swoboda and Jerry Grote drove in the game winning runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The “Miracle Mets” had finally done it, and in the process turned the Mets into a respectable Major League franchise. This ticket stub is for the clinching Game 5 and shows edge and corner wear but is in otherwise very good to excellent condition. It has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (29088481) and has been graded a VG-EX 4.
