Lot #24: Thurman Munson Single Signed Baseball With Mint 9 Signature (PSA/DNA NM-MT 8)

Description

Thurman Munson was one of the best players in baseball during his 11 seasons with the New York Yankees. A catcher as sturdy as a brick wall, Munson was named the first captain of the Yankees since Lou Gehrig in 1939, an honor not bestowed lightly by the most decorated franchise in the history of American sports. Munson was named to seven All-Star Games in his career, and was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1970. In 1976, he earned his only MVP Award, finishing with 17 homers, 105 RBI, and a stellar .302 batting average.

Munson's vibrant, blue ballpoint scripting rests dead-center on the sweet spot of this cream colored and boldly stamped MacGregor Official Little League sphere, and the item's overall display quality of his much sought after signature is unparalleled. The inscription “MVP 1976” is written on the south panel in an unknown hand. Munson’s autograph has been graded an impressive MINT 9 by PSA/DNA and the baseball a 6.5, giving the ball an overall grade of PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. This item comes with a LOA from the aforementioned authentication service (AB12925).
