Lot #24: 1984 Wayman Tisdale Game Used USA Olympics Basketball Jersey (Tisdale Family LOA)

Description

University of Oklahoma big man Wayman Tisdale took on a starring role for the 1984 United States Olympic Basketball team. This was the final United States Olympic Basketball team comprised entirely of amateur players, and it featured a cadre of the best players the college ranks had to offer. Tisdale, Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, and Sam Perkins were all NCAA First Team All-America players in 1984, and all four of these greats contributed to the United States winning yet another Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles. Tisdale led the team in rebounding, corralling 6.4 boards per game as the United States swept the competition. The US team went 8-0 in the tournament, defeating Spain by 31 points in the gold medal game. Tisdale’s best game of the tournament came in pool play against Uruguay, with the Oklahoma Sooner star dropping a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as the United States cruised to a 104-68 victory. After the Olympics, Tisdale embarked on a long and successful career in the NBA that saw him average 15.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Pacers, Kings, and Suns.

Tisdale wore this white mesh USA Basketball jersey during the 1984 Olympics. “USA” and his number “12” are screen-printed on the front in red and blue text and numerals, while a second red and blue screen-printed “12” is located on the back. The sides of the jersey are accented with red and blue stripes, which also decorate the sleeve and collar openings. A black Descente logo is printed on the right chest, while a Descente tag is sewn on the back inside collar of the jersey. This jersey comes with a LOA from Regina Tisdale, the wife of the late Wayman Tisdale.
