Lot #25: 1968 United Press International All-America Basketball Team Certificate Presented to Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) For Member Of First Team (Abdul-Jabbar LOA)

Description

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s collegiate career at UCLA is the stuff of legends. The New York native won NCAA titles in each of his three varsity seasons with Bruins, claiming the Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors in each tournament. Abdul-Jabbar’s second season with the varsity team, in 1967-68, was one of his most decorated campaigns, ending with the Helms Player of the Year award, the USBWA Player of the Year award, and numerous other honors. Presented here is Abdul-Jabbar’s personally owned 1968 United Press International All-America Basketball Team certificate. This certificate was awarded to Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, “in recognition of his selection by United Press International Sports Editors as a member of the UPA All-America First Team”. This certificate, which shows some minor signs of aging, has been signed by John G. Guffin, the Sports Editor of United Press International. This certificate comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
