Lot #26: 1966-67 UCLA Most Valuable Player Desk Set Presented To Lewis Alcindor (Abdul-Jabbar LOA)

Description

Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this desk set for winning the 1966-67 UCLA Most Valuable Player honor. This was Abdul-Jabbar’s first season with the UCLA varsity. It ended the same way as Abdul-Jabbar’s second and third college seasons: with an NCAA title and virtually every player of the year recognition. Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, finished his first season of college ball with averages of 29 points and 15.5 rebounds per game.

In 1969, his final season, Abdul-Jabbar was honored with the inaugural Naismith College Player of the Year award. This offered MVP desk set measures 13 x 7 inches, with a 7-inch high basketball player statuette emerging from the desk set. Also included with this item is a pen and holder. A plaque on this desk set reads “UCLA Most Valuable Player 1966-1967 / NCAA Champions / Lewis Alcindor”. This item derives directly from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a personally hand-signed LOA from Kareem will accompany this item.
