Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s first season with the UCLA varsity five came in 1966-67. After a season spent dominating his fellow freshman, Abdul-Jabbar proceeded to average an astonishing 29.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per contest and led the Bruins to the first of their three consecutive NCAA titles. For his efforts, Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was presented with this Friars Club of California award as the 1967 Basketball Player of the Year. This award plaque measures 8 x 10 inches. A gold placard attached to the face of this plaque reads “Friars Club of California Is Proud To Present Its Annual Athletic Award To Lew Alcindor In Recognition Of His Extraordinary Talents As The 1967 Basketball Player Of The Year” and “Irving Briskin, Pres.”. This award comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
