Lot #4: 1960's Gruen Precision Watch Given To Lew Alcindor (Abdul-Jabbar LOA)

Description

The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Gruen watch during the 1960’s. Then a star at Power Memorial Academy in New York, Abdul-Jabbar was America’s most highly scrutinized basketball player as early as his junior year of high school. Later on in the 1960’s, Abdul-Jabbar travelled west to play his college ball at UCLA before the Bucks selected the player then known as “Lew Alcindor” with the first overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft. This Gruen watch has a circular white face, with the number “12” and hash marks for the remaining hours. The hands are gold in color and the wristband is a deep brown leather. Etched on the back of the watch is “GRUEN / Base Metal Bezel / Stainless Steel Back” and “Lew” in cursive script. This watch comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
