Lot #6: 1968-69 Atlanta Tipoff Club Most Outstanding College Basketball Player Trophy Presented To Lewis Alcindor (Abdul-Jabbar LOA)

Description

Most Outstanding College Basketball Player of the 1968-69 season, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, led UCLA to their third straight national championship in the 1969 NCAA Basketball Tournament, sweeping aside Purdue 92-72 to claim the title. Abdul-Jabbar averaged an even 24.0 points per game in 1968-69, adding 14.7 rebounds per contest for the 29-1 Bruins.

This offered Atlanta Tipoff Club Most Outstanding College Basketball Player trophy measures approximately 32 inches tall and stands on a 14.5 x 11-inch base. A plaque affixed to the base of the trophy reads “Lew Alcindor, U.C.L.A. / The Most Outstanding College Basketball Player / In The United States, As Voted By / United Press International 1968-69 / From The Atlanta Tipoff Club”. This trophy is topped by a gold statuette of a basketball player, however this player’s right hand is missing. The trophy originates from the personal memorabilia collection of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem has provided a signed LOA for this lot.
