Lot #38: 1987 Greg Maddux Rookie Game Used Wilson 1668 Model Fielder's Glove (PSA/DNA)

Description

Right-handed pitcher Greg Maddux earned his stripes for the Hall of Fame for his 355 wins over 23 years. He won 20 games only once but earned four consecutive Cy Young Awards from 1992-1995 with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves. In addition to his rubber arm, “The Professor” earned 13 consecutive Gold Gloves and 18 overall for his deft fielding from the mound.

Offered here is one of the earlier fielding gloves Maddux used in his Hall of Fame career. This 12 ½-inch leather glove was used during the 1987 season, Maddux’s first full season and second in the Majors. This is a Wilson 1668 model glove and was constructed of Wilson’s top-grade tanned steer hide. The glove also has a “Dual Hinge” web and a closed “Pro-Back” with a finger hole and “Power Strap” wrist strap. The number “31” is handwritten black marker next to the Wilson logo on the lower outer thumb. The glove displays excellent game use with evident wear that can be seen in the pocket, face of the web and throughout the body of the glove. A wonderful early-career game used item from one of baseball’s greatest pitchers and comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00558) for the game use.
