By the mid-1960’s, Hall of Famer Willie Mays was the number one contender for surpassing Babe Ruth’s career home run record. Each season since 1954 Mays was good for 30 to 50 homers and he slugged a league-leading 47 homers in 1964. Also leading the NL in slugging, Mays solidified his standing as the game’s most exciting player and set the stage for his 1965 MVP season. Mays would earn his 11th straight All-Star selection win his seventh consecutive Gold Glove Award

Offered here is a Willie Mays salesman sample jersey for 1964. Manufactured by Wilson, this size 42 cream-colored flannel button-down jersey has “GIANTS” sewn on across the chest in black and orange felt. The collar and sleeve ends have black and orange chenille piping and the Wilson tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail. Below the Wilson wash tag is a white felt patch with “1964” in black. The armpits have the premanufactured air holes and the back of the jersey has “24” sewn on in black and orange felt. The inside back collar has a white felt patch with “Mays” in black. The jersey does display toning and other marks throughout.
