Lot #1267: LeBron James Signed Sports Illustrated Magazine 13x16 Framed Display (JSA)

Description

Presented is a LeBron James signed Sports Illustrated magazine in a framed display. The reigning “King James” of the National Basketball Association signed his name in blue marker on the front cover of the February 10, 2002 issue headlined “The Chosen One High school junior Lebron James would be an NBA lottery pick right now.” James also inscribed his uniform number, “23”, above his signature. James is pictured in his St. Vincent-St. Mary High School “Irish” jersey with a white basketball in his right hand over his shoulder, left hand outstretched towards the camera. During the 2001-2002 season, his junior year in the Akron, Ohio high school, James appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, becoming the first high school basketball underclassman to do so. With averages of 29 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, he was again named Ohio Mr. Basketball and selected to the USA Today All-USA First Team and became the first junior to be named male basketball Gatorade National Player of the Year. St. Vincent-St. Mary finished the year with a 23–4 record, ending their season with a loss in the Division II championship game. Following the loss, James unsuccessfully petitioned for a change to the NBA's draft eligibility rules in an attempt to enter the 2002 NBA draft. The James-signed 8 x 10-inch cover is mounted in a white matte with black accent and displayed in a 13 x 16-inch black wood with glass frame. Please note that there are small scratches in the lower front center of the frame. This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
