From one Hall of Famer to another, Julius Erving “Dr. J.” was presented with this Tom Landry Award by the Baptist Hospital of Nashville, Tennessee in 1992. The award is approximately 19 ½ inches tall with two components – an 8 ½ x 8 ½ x 6-inch base and a three-dimensional bronze bust of the Hall of Fame and legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry. A plaque on the front of the base has raised gold lettering that reads “Baptist Hospital Nashville, Tennessee The Tom Landry Award presented to Julius Erving for individual commitment to physical and spiritual excellence For God hath not given us the spirit; but of power and of love and of self control” and “II Timothy 1:7”. “1992” is in the lower left corner and the facsimile signature of C. David Stringfield, along with his printed name and title “President, Baptist Hospital” is on the lower right corner. This award weighs approximately 20 pounds and is in good overall condition.
