Lot #105: 1997 Kevin Brown Game Used & Photo Matched Florida Marlins Road Jersey - Photo Matched To No-Hitter 6/10/1997 (Sports Investors Authentication)

Description

The perfect game is one of the rarest feats in all of baseball. In the World Series era beginning in 1903, only 21 pitchers have reached that historic milestone. There have been several close calls, with one such instance occurring on June 10th, 1997 when Florida Marlins pitcher Kevin Brown nearly threw a perfecto against the San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park. While Brown didn’t throw a perfect game, he did toss a no hitter, striking out seven batters without a single walk. After retiring Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent in the bottom of the 8th inning, Brown allowed his only baserunner when he plunked Marin Benard to break up the perfect game. Brown quickly recovered as he retired the last four batters to close out the game, culminating with a punch out of Darryl Hamilton to record the no hitter.

Offered here is the very jersey worn by Kevin Brown when he tossed his no-hitter against the San Francisco Giants on June 10, 1997 and has been photo matched to his historic game. This size 46 Russell Athletic button-down jersey features “FLORIDA” with a marlin wrapped around the “F” sewn on in teal, black and white tackle twill across the chest. Brown’s number “27” is sewn on the left front chest in black and teal tackle twill. The Russell Athletic tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail with “100% POLYESTER’ and “1” EXTRA LENGTH” flags attached. The back of the jersey has “BROWN” sewn on in black and teal tackle twill on a matching gray nameplate, while his number “27” is sewn on in black and teal tackle twill below. The left sleeve has the Marlins’ logo patch, while the right sleeve has the “JACKIE ROBINSON 1947 1997” commemorative patch worn by every team during the 1997 season. Each sleeve is capped off in a ribbed material with a white, teal and black border. A great opportunity to own a piece of baseball history and this jersey comes with a LOA from PM&G, who have photo matched this jersey to the June 10, 1997 game where Kevin Brown tossed his no hitter.
