Description

Cal Ripken, Jr. was the undisputed star of the Orioles by 1990. His bat coupled by his flawless fielding made him one of the American League's most exciting players. At the time this glove was used by him, Cal was joined on the Orioles by his father Cal, Sr., a coach and his younger brother Billy - in fact both Ripken boys hit 28 doubles that summer, tying for the team lead. This offered Rawlings PRO 6-HF model glove was used by Cal Ripken, Jr. during the 1990 season as a backup. This glove displays excellent game use with substantial wear being shown on the pocket, web face and throughout the body of the glove. The tips of the fingers are scuffed as would be expected from Ripken playing in the field during the 1987 season and the index finger sleeve above the “Holdster” is well depressed from Ripken’s extended index finger. The glove was constructed of Rawlings top grade “Heart of the Hide” tanned steer hid and is bound with tanned rawhide laces. The web is a pro-style single post double T-bar with a closed “Fastback” with finger “Holster” back and an adjustable wrist strap. The Rawlings red label with white lettering embroidered is on the wrist. “1990” is handwritten in black marker on the outer index finger, which indicates this glove may have been used for multiple seasons. “RIPKEN” is handwritten in faded black marker on the outside pinky and the year code “OBE09” indicates the glove was manufactured in October of 1987. Ripken has marked the clear plastic bag he stored this glove in with a blue marker that reads “Back Up Might have used for part of season when gamer is being fixed” and “Year of only 3 Errors.” This comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this glove. Additionally, there is a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00719) for the game use.
